Kentucky Dachshund Rescue saves Dachshunds and other small breeds from euthanasia by providing food, medical care, love and time for them to find a forever home.

  • Dachshund Rescue

    Rescue

Animal welfare is under attack in Kentucky and the surrounding areas. Shelters are underfunded, or non-existent. Puppy mills continue to supply animals for top dollar prices, but provide minimal to downright deadly conditions for their animals. Families deal with life events needing to surrender their beloved family pet, or a local good samaritan finds a stray in the neighborhood, but cannot keep the animal long term. Whatever the case, KDR is here to help.

    Foster & Vet

With our foster-based approach, dogs under KDR’s care get individualized care and love. They get socialized with their foster, other dogs, and become familiar with a home environment. They get to sleep in a warm bed, burrowed under blankets, instead of a cement floor in a shelter. Dogs in KDR all undergo vetting to ensure they are up to date on vaccinations, have immediate medical concerns addressed, and begin to heal.

    Placement

Once a KDR dog is through with vetting and on the road to recovery, they are ready for placement in a home. When a suitable match is found and the applicant has successfully gone through our process, prospective adopters and dogs of interest get to have meet and greets to get to know one another. The foster then determines which home would be the most suitable for their forever home. After adoption KDR follows up to ensure successful adjustment.

How you can help

Whether you are looking to adopt, donate, or volunteer - there’s all kinds of ways you can help KDR!

Become a foster, help with transport, conduct home visits, follow ups - plenty of in person or remote options to help get dogs safely to their forever home.
