Why are our adoption fees higher than a local shelter?  Shelters call us to take dogs into rescue when they cannot afford to pay for the vetting costs a dog needs or the time allotted for adoption at the shelter has passed .(State law allows 5 days in the shelter )

We will take the dog and totally have him/her vetted including heartworm treatment if necessary.  The dog is placed in foster care ( a family setting) and we begin to socialize the pet.  Some have never had much human contact  especially loving human contact and some have even been  abused.  It's wonderful to see a pet come "into their own" when placed in a loving family setting and accept the love they so much need.

Because we take so many dogs that need extensive vetting , adoption donation fee may be higher than what shelters charge.  Shelters call us when they have a dog that is going to require more than they can give it, either in time to adopt or medical care.  Please understand the dog you adopt may have not required extensive vetting, But the next three dogs we rescue may need the care.  So your adoption helps offset the care for the three dogs who need special care.  You are actually helping other dogs to find homes when you adopt your pet!  Isn't that wonderful?

The fee schedule above is determined by the vetting costs we normally incur when preparing a dog for adoption.  Puppies are higher because they require a series of vaccinations spanning over a period of 6 wks to 16 weeks and a spay/neuter.  Vets charge more to spay a female than neuter a male reflected in the schedule.  Our schedule allows the adoption donation to be determined  by age and whether a dog is female or male.  We gradually reduce the donation fee for older pets to allow them to be more adoptable..

All dogs receive the same top quality care.  Some will require more vetting such as dental cleaning or tooth removal or a surgery.  In those incidences KDR still accepts the normal and customary adoption donation as  listed above.  Other dogs may not need spay/neuter but their adoption donation will help cover the costs of the dogs who did require EXTRA VETTING.  Our goal is to always provide whatever care a dog needs to be adopted healthy.
