FOR ALL DOXIE PARENTS
"I'll give for you a
little time, a doxie of mine," He said
"For you to love while
she lives, and mourn when she is dead.
It may be just a few months,
or even just two or three.
But, will you till I call
her back, take care of her for me?
She'll bring her charms to
gladden you, and shall her stay be brief,
You'll have her lovely
memories as a solace for your grief.
I cannot promise she will
stay, since all from earth return,
But there are lessons taught
down there I want this doxie to learn.
I've looked this wide world
over in my search for owners true;
And from the throngs that
crowd life's lanes, I have selected you.
Now will you give her all
your love, nor think the labor vain,
Nor hate me when I come to
call, to take her home again.
I fancied that I heard you
say, Dear Lord, Thy will be done.
For all the joy that she
shall bring, the risk of grief we'll run.
We'll shelter her with
tenderness, we'll love her while we may;
And for the happiness we've
known, will ever grateful stay.
But shall the angels call
for her much sooner than we planned,
We'll brave the bitter grief
that comes, and try to understand!"
The RAINBOW BRIDGE
Just this side of Heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge where
an animal that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes
to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our
special friends, so they can run and play together. There is
plenty of food and water, and sunshine, and our friends are warm and
comfortable.
|All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and
vigor, those who
were hurt or maimed are strong again----just as we remember them in our
dream of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and
content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone
special, someone very special, someone left behind.
They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly
stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent, his
eager body begins to quiver. Suddenly, he breaks from the group,
flying over the green grass, faster and faster. You have been
spotted and when you and your special friend finally meet you cling
together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy
kisses rain upon your face, your hands again caress the beloved head,
and you look once more into those trusting eyes--so long gone, but never
absent from your heart.
Then you cross the RAINBOW BRIDGE together.......
