A CANDLE FOR EVERY YEAR OF HER LIFE......

Katie was a rescue dog.....her original owner died and left no one to take her...She was rescued by Kentucky Lab Rescue from the Lexington Humane Society, Lexington, Kentucky.  I already had another application in to adopt a dachshund from Georgia, when I received the call she needed me.  I immediately fell in love with her.  Throughout the years she has been my laughter, my inspiration, my reason for early mornings.  She slept at my side, shared her wonderful personality with me and all my family.

In December, Katie developed extremely small bumps on her tummy, (the size of a pin head).  A biopsy was done and results showed Adenocarcinoma.  She had a massive removal of all mammary glands surrounding the area.  We started chemotherapy to give her every chance.  Chemo destroys fast growing cells of cancer, but it does not show preference between good or bad.  So she would have 3-4 days of sickness and then rebound.  But, the fourth treatment destroyed her.  Her little body could not get over the toxic effects of the poison of Doxirubicin .

Katie had the regular x-rays, blood tests, and scans .  No cancer showed in her major organs to show that  the cancer had metastasized to other places.  Our vets worked with the Auburn State University to give Katie her treatments, but often had conflicting advice on what to do.

Currently, there are no diagnostic tests available in Kentucky for animal cancer.  MRI is available only to their human counterparts.  We want to dedicate this page to Katie and all the animals like her that have suffered from cancer and undetectable diseases because of the bridge between the human and animal suffering.

Our goal is to raise the funds to provide an MRI for diagnosing cancer or other abnormalities in our animal companions....They give so much to us..It is time we gave back to them.  There are currently MRI available to humans but animals are not allowed the same privilege of diagnosis and treatment.

Your efforts, funding and prayers by anyone who would like to give to the Katie Fund and carry her legacy into the future will forever be remembered.  Whether you contribute  your time, your funding or your knowledge...we need to work together to bring about an end to animal suffering .  Let us work together to bring down the walls between human suffering and the suffering of our beloved pets........

A Tribute to the Life of:

Katie
